The Mystic Krewe of Salty Barkers, a parade unit of dogs and their people, invites you to join in the Apalachicola Mardi Gras Barkus Parade
on Saturday, February 7, 2015. This year's theme is Barkaritaville.
Dress yourself and your dog in tropical parrothead costumes and celebrate Mardi Gras Apalach style! You may walk, ride in golf carts, pull wagons, push strollers, or come up with any other unique form of transportation. The parade, for the benefit of the Franklin County Animal Shelter and the Apalachicola Dog Park, begins at 1:00 pm at the Bowery and winds through town, ending at Bowery Station, where the party will continue with music, dancing, Cajun food, and contests.
Registration is $5. per person.
Dogs, of course, are free.

25th Anniversary Walk for the Animals

Comments:On Saturday, February 28, 2015 the Humane Society of Broward County will celebrate its 25th Anniversary Walk for the Animals. Last year?s Walk saw 5,000 people and 2,500 of their furry friends unite in Downtown Fort Lauderdale, and even more are expected this year to help the shelter reach the goal of $550,000!
The Walk for the Animals, presented by VCA Animal Hospitals, is the HSBC's largest annual fundraiser. Funds raised from this event help the shelter continue its mission of helping animals and educating the community. Your participation will help make a difference for thousands of animals in need, and help them find forever homes.
The spectacular event takes place at Huizenga Plaza in Downtown Fort Lauderdale with Jacey Birch from WPLG Local 10 and 99.9 Kiss Country welcoming the walkers. Registration is at 8:00 a.m. and the 1.2 mile walk begins at 10:00 a.m. Event chairs Carey Morgan and Leslie Vincent encourage you to register on-line at www.walk4theanimals.com ? you can even create your own personal fundraising page and ask friends to donate. The sooner you register the sooner you can start collecting donations. Raise a minimum of $150 and get the official walk t-shirt and dog bandana. Raise $250 and you?ll receive the special anniversary key chain. Have a group of friends or coworkers that want to support the event? Form a ?Pack? or team, raise a minimum of $1,500 and get special ?pack perks and prizes!? The walk is a fabulous way to meet fellow animal lovers all while raising money for a great cause. With fun for the whole family and a complimentary pancake breakfast provided by IHOP, this is a great event for all ages!

Where you and your best friends can enjoy music, visit vendors selling everything from jewelry to doggie bows, rescue groups, adopt, enter your best friend into contests, get something to eat and participate in the Doggie Fun Zone Lure Course. Silent auction and raffles too!
