On February 24, Cody & Carl?s Blvd. pet boutique will celebrate ?Dogs are Family Too Day!? Canines and children of all ages are invited to join Cody & Carl?s Blvd. for a family affair. Festivities include a children?s book signing, an opportunity to strut and shop with your mutt, meet new canine friends, along with plenty of treats!

Designer, artist, mom and dog-lover, Teri Bennett, turned that tough situation around by writing a children?s book Angel Dog Austin, to help children and families come to terms with their loss. There is a special section in the back of the book that can be used as a memorial for the reader?s ?angel? pets.

Ideal candidates for the Instructor Class include: obedience trainers, kennel operators, pet retailers, pet sitters, veterinarian staff, animal shelter employees, pet rescue personnel, pet groomers, EMT's, fire fighters, and any pet lover who would find it rewarding to teach this subject matter to others.

Comments:Dogs Deserve Better (www.dogsdeservebetter.org) is a non-profit organization working to raise awareness of the plight of chained and tethered dogs. These dogs quickly become victims of neglect and abuse and can also become a risk to the community. A high percentage of chained animals are neglected, this neglect can include; lack of food, water and shelter, no medical care, training and/or human interaction. Having a chained dog also leads to higher incidents of avoidable injury, especially to neighborhood children or pets that may wander into the area where a dog is chained. DDB offers information and assistance to people with chained dogs in the form of education and in addition offers to help with resources to put up fencing for the dog, training and re-homing, if necessary.
The purpose of our yearly Chain Off event is to improve the relationship our community has with its pets through education, awareness, opportunity and fun. In addition to DDB representatives who will educate the public and promote the goals of the Dogs Deserve Better group we will have demonstrations, information, raffles, contests and prizes:
Vendors will include veterinarians, pet stores, groomers, local artists, dog trainers, shelters, non-profit organizations, local businesses and of course all sorts of cool pet products.
Provide information and resources for alternative outdoor pet care, such as fencing. Dog Masseuse will be on site all day.
Demos to run every hour will include; Pet First Aid, Healing touch and essential oil, Canine Massage and Canine Basic training.
Representatives chained to doghouses during the event to illustrate the plight of these neglected animals.

Comments:DUPAGE COUNTY'S GOING TO THE DOGS!?

Top Dog of DuPage presents the 2008 DuPage County Top Dog Fair and Amateur Dog Competition. Five percent of the admissions will go to the Friends of DuPage County Animal Care and Control.

DuPage County finally gets a chance to see just who's the "Top Dog" at the county's first-ever Top Dog Fair and Amateur Dog Competition. Pet owners can show off their canine friends and see speakers, demonstrations, exhibits and all types of products and services at no charge. Natura Pet Products Inc. will also give away treats in Top Dog's free doggie bags.

Attractions include Vogue Doggie Inc.'s mini fashion show. Morgan's Dog School of Chicago master trainer Ben Bartelstein will be performing and will teach attendees' dogs how to jump through hoops. Rescue groups and shelters will also have dogs for adoption. Proud pet owners can march alongside the DuPage Fire Department in the free sidewalk "Pet Parade" sponsored by Dunkin' Donuts to kick off the show.

In the main event, dogs will compete for honors as DuPage County's Top Dog. Attendees will vote for a winner with a prize of $300. But this is no Westminster Kennel Club as all dogs, big or small, purebred or lovable mutt, are welcome.

The fair is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 7 at the DuPage County Fairgrounds on 2015 West Manchester Road in Wheaton. Admission is set at $5 for adults and children over six. Children under six years old and all dogs are admitted for free.
