Comments:On Saturday morning, October 1, 2005, dogs and their owners will parade through SouthEnd Charlotte, N.C., to kick-off Barkitecture, the second annual doghouse design competition and auction presented by the Young Architects Forum of the American Institute of Architects Charlotte Section (AIA Charlotte). The Puppy Parade, starting at 10:00am, will begin and end in the plaza in front of the Design Center of the Carolinas (1930 Camden Road) with a pit stop at Barbara?s Canine Café (1447 South Tryon Street). Vendors specializing in canine-specific products and services will set-up their booths and tables, while innovative and visually stunning doghouses, designed by the region?s premier architects, contractors, interior designers, and other building industry representatives provide a colorful backdrop for the morning?s events. The Puppy Parade is the prelude for the show and auction, starting at 6:00pm, to benefit the Humane Society of Charlotte (HSC) and the SPCA Alliance. The designer doghouses will be sold to the highest bidder during a live auction and a silent auction will offer exquisite items for owners and their canine companions. Sponsorship opportunities are available and in-kind donations for the silent auction are welcome. All Barkitecture events held on October 1, 2005 are open to the public. The Puppy Parade is free, but there is a cost associated with attending the evening show and auction. Comments:Flyball is a fast-paced, fun sport for dogs and their people. Two teams of four dogs race each other over a course consisting of 4 hurdles and a flyball box. Each dog must go over the hurdles, trigger the box, and retrieve a tennis ball over all four hurdles. The dogs run relay-style and the first team to finish with no errors wins. Twenty-eight teams from 11 clubs will compete with their dogs. Well-behaved dogs on 6 foot or shorter leashes are welcome.

Introduction level workshop developed to introduce dogs and handlers to tracking. This is a hands-on working seminar limited to a set number of working participants. Each dog will be started and evaluated on training tracks during the workshop. Developed for novice to advanced level trackers to provide an introductory knowledge of tracking. Dogs will be introduced to starts, restarts, article indication and will work on tracks with straight legs, corners, multiple articles and serpentines.
