Comments:Project POOCH will hold its first ever "POOCH in the Pub" silent auction fundraiser on Thursday, November 29, 2007 from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Lucky Labrador Public House at 7675 SW Capitol Highway in Portland , Oregon . Cover charge is $20 and includes pizza, salad and 10 raffle tickets. All proceeds from this event will support Project POOCH, a non-profit organization that provides opportunities for youth in corrections to develop the personal and vocational skills needed to become productive community members while also saving the lives of unwanted shelter dogs.

For almost 15 years, Project POOCH has successfully paired hundreds of dogs and troubled youth. Many of the POOCH dogs that come to our program have been abused or neglected. With patience and understanding, the youth teach the dogs to trust again. As the trainers manage their dogs, they learn to manage their own behavior. They also develop good work habits, acquire valuable occupational skills and learn to work as a team. Every POOCH dog completes the AKC Canine Good Citizenship certificate and is then placed for adoption into a loving, forever home. POOCH is a big win-win for the dogs, the youth, the families who adopt a POOCH dog and the communities who accept these young men once they leave corrections.

What stared 5 years ago as a small neighborhood Oktoberfest soon became a fund raising event for local shelters,

Because of our Pooch menu.

We soon found a majority of our customers pets had come from one shelter or another. We decided to work the fund raising into our Oktoberfest to create "Bark'Toberfest".

In the past years we have raised money for the Multnomah County Sheriffs K-9 program when they had gotten the new pups to work with.

Had Greyhounds adopted as well as pets from the the Oregon Humane Society. We Raised money for the Katrina animals and teams of workers who went there to rescue animals.

This year we are staying closer to home and working with organizations who are very local and who work and live with in our community.

If you need more info on the event or us please check the links provided, or give me a call.

Cheers Marty

Comments:One of the best ways to navigate your grief when you lose a pet is memorializing them through art. Research shows that art and healing come from the same source. In fact, it is now known that when a person is creating art or is healing, this person will emit the same brain wave patterns. Art and healing is so powerful that hospitals are incorporating art into patient care. Here are some important facts about the healing elements of art.Participation in artistic activities can have measurable physiological results such as, reducing stress, improving the immune system, and easing pain Creating art gives a voice and language to unknown emotions, feelings and behaviors Tapping into our creative energy can help a person to feel more alive, to gain inner wisdom, and to stay more completely in the present moment When creating art, it uses the emotional and intuitive aspects of a person Our Pet Loss Support Director, art therapist and certified grief counselor Enid Traisman, MSW facilitates this series of memorial art workshops. Each month offers a new opportunity to create something unique and take it home with you! This is a free community event. Donations are welcome. Pets welcome in spirit only. Map
Comments:We will be hosting a NAFA (North American Flyball Association) sanctioned Flyball tournament in conjunction with the Marion County Fair on July 14th and 15th. Flyball tournaments are held to provide a venue for regional Flyball competition. We are expecting 18-22 teams of six dogs each to attend for a total of 100-130 participants from Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia.

Flyball is a team sport for dogs that was invented in the late seventies and has been gaining in popularity ever since. Flyball is a relay race that matches two teams of four dogs each, racing side by side. Each dog must run over a series of four jumps at the end of which is a spring loaded box that pops out a tennis ball. All four dogs take turns running the course. As the first dog returns with the tennis ball, the next dog goes. The first team to have all four dogs run without errors wins the heat. It is a fast-paced, fun, and exciting sport for spectators and participants alike.

Comments:Until pets are able to recite your phone number or address to authorities when they become lost and separated from you, visible identification and a microchip are your pets? ticket back home. The Cat Adoption Team urges all pet owners to put an ID tag and license on their pets? collars right now, including indoor only cats. A microchip is a great secondary form of identification ? it is a permanent form of identification that can be scanned at animal shelters and veterinarian offices. What: Discount microchip clinic on National Tag Day at the Cat Adoption TeamWhen: Saturday, April 4 10 am ? 2 pmWhere: Cat Adoption Team 14175 SW Galbreath Drive, Sherwood (503) 925-8903 / catadoptionteam.org Cost: $15 per microchip, includes registrationRestrictions: Owned dogs and cats only Dogs must be on a leash Cats must be in a secure carrierVisit catadoptionteam.org/calendar/event/microchip-clinic-for-national-tag-day/ for all the details Nationally, only 16 percent of lost dogs and 2 percent of lost cats are reunited with their owners. Almost 50,000 stray animals were received by Oregon shelters last year. Indoor only cats should always wear identification just in case they get out. Microchipping is a permanent form of identification and chips can be scanned at your local veterinarian, animal control, or animal shelter. If more pets wore visible identification, the number of animals entering animal shelters would decrease.
