Dogs Deserve Better Chain Off 2008
June 28, 2008
10am (24 hr Event)
Capital Building
Austin, TX
Phone:512-803-2069
Map
Comments:Friends of Doggies:

Attached you will find a flyer for an important event in Austin NEXT SATURDAY AND SUNDAY (June 28-29).

The way this will work is the coordinator of the event, Cheryl Kaminski, is going to chain herself for 24 hours to bring awareness for the plight of chained dogs everywhere. And even though Austin is now a Chain-Free City, we still need to remember that many other cities are not chain free and their dogs are forced to live sad and lonely lives at the end of the chain...their world just out of reach!

I am planning to join Cheryl for the chain off. I will not be chaining myself for 24 hours, though, and you need not either but you can show up and chain yourself for as long as you can. A note to myself and others is that 24 hours really is nothing compared to the 24/7 life of a chained dog.

Please help Cheryl and I in this important outreach by volunteering whatever time you have. You can contact Cheryl at getmethereplease@gmail.com (see flyer for phone number). The more people we have out there, the more effective it will be. And if media comes out, we can really blaze a freedom trail for the chained dogs in our world.

Thanks for your attention to this important matter!

Timothy

Comments:The seminar is called "Bettering Relationships Between People and Dogs" and it is going to be given by talented behavior consultant and aggression specialist, Lee Mannix.

This conference is a full-day seminar designed for shelter and rescue workers, trainers, and other dog enthusiasts. He will help us better understand and handle puzzling and problematic dog behaviors. This is especially helpful to rescuers because after this conference, you will not only be better equipped to rehabilitate dogs in your own program, but to help families who are having problems with their dog so that it never ends up in rescue.

He will discuss temperament testing, explore problematic/abnormal/psychogenic behaviors (from separation anxiety and insecurity to pica and polydypsia), explain the difference between training problems and behavior problems, lead a discussion and question/answer session about aggressive behavior, and more!

If you are interested in attending, we encourage you to register soon: tickets are going fast! The profits from this event will benefit Woodstock Animal Foundation and will go directly to supporting our rescue and outreach efforts in the Brazos Valley.

Comments:Alright everyone get ready for the event of the year. Cowtown Canines will be having a garge sale, dog wash, and vaccination clinic event on October 6th 2012. It will take place at Cowtown Canines. The garage sale will be out front. The vaccination clinic will take place in the lobby and the dog wash/nail trim station will be inside the daycare. We are super excited to have TCAP come out and help vaccinate all of our pets at very reasonable prices. They will also be doing heartworm test and selling heart worm prevention for a fraction of the cost that it would cost at other places. All of the gargae sale items are donations from clients, family, and friends of Cowtown Canines and The Pugliese family. Proceeds will go towards the Pugliese Memorial to help take care of the remaining fur-kids that were left behing after my fathers passing. We will also have other items for sale (all dog related) to help benefit this memorial. (t-shirts, license plates, keychains, toys, leashes, collars, crates) All remaining items after the garage sale will be donate to our friend Phil Wallace for his program called Warm Up Fort Worth!!!! So bring out your old clothes, shoes, and blankets and help us help others. The dog wash will take place between our grooming area and our outside play yard. We will have stations set up for your dog to go. We will have bathing stations, drying station, nail trim station, ear cleaning station, and a perfume station. You can select to have one or all of the above done. Proceeds go towards Pugliese Memorial Fund. TCAP requires all dogs be in a crate or on a leash to participate in the vaccination clinic. Cowtown Canines requires that your dog be friendly and on a leash. If your dog does have issues with other dogs please leave them at home so we may provide the safest enviornment possible for our fur-babies.

Comments:Arthritis doesn?t discriminate. It affects not only people of all ages -- including children -- but also strikes our furry friends, too. If you?re a dog-owner, you make sure your buddy takes his heartworm medicine, eats well, looks bright-eyed and playful, and greets you as only a doggy can when you come home. You notice changes in mood and activity, so if your pet isn?t feeling his best you may suspect a cold or stomach virus ? but it could be arthritis. In fact, arthritis affects one in every five adult dogs in the U.S. and is one of the most common sources of chronic pain that veterinarians treat. Join us at this 5K and 1 mile walk with your 'best friend' and support those who suffer. Register at www.houstonarthritiswalk.kintera.org

Comments:Our rescue primarily focuses on the dogs and cats that end up on the euthanasis list at our locat DFW shelters such as the Arlington, Irving, & Carrollton Animal Shelters. Each cat or dog you see at our adoption event was hand picked by one of our volunteer fosters who take the dog or cat into their homes to help prepare them for a new family. Some require a great deal of rehabilitation, while others appear to have come straight from the groomer's. As one rescued pet gets adopted at our event, plans to save a new dog or cat begins,. Please support us by considering adopting from a local shelter or rescue before buying. As long as family pets are killed at our local shelters we need your support to help us help them. You will find we have a variety of breed in all sizes. We normally only have dogs and cats, but sometimes we have another type of pet needing a home. Pease come see for yourself how wonderfully grateful our rescued shelter pets are to be alive.

Comments:Annual event during Fiesta. Main event is the parade with tons of dogs in costumes. They also have dog demonstrations, prizes and silent auctions. Check the website for pictures! Great event with tons of goofy pups!

Also nice to know: This is a charity event for the Delta Society (non-profit, all volunteer). They bring animals "Ambassadors" to adults and kids in the hospitals, shelters and extended stay care facilities. I believe this is their biggest fund raiser of the year. Seems like very cool group, anyone can join and they give classes if you would like your pet to become an ambassador.

For the sixth year in a row, The Woodlands Dog Park Club will host its largest fundraiser, Spring Bark!!! on April 17 from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm. Located at Northshore Park on Lake Woodlands Drive, the event brings together pets, rescue groups, and pet-friendly businesses for a day full of activities, education and fun.In 2009, Spring Bark!!! was named ?Best Pet Event in Houston? by Houston Pet Talk magazine. ?This has become a community affair,? says Laura McConnell, president of The Woodlands Dog Park Club. ?Our intention is to highlight the needs of homeless animals and to educate our community about the need for spaying and neutering your pets.? At least 15 rescue groups plus the Montgomery County SPCA and Animal Shelter will be in attendance with animals desperately seeking their forever homes. Since its inception in 2005, money raised at Spring Bark!!! has benefitted 30 rescue groups and provided funding for over 40 grants. The day will begin with a pledge walk starting at the Township Service Center (formerly the Community Associations Building) and ending at Northshore Park?s Main Pavilion. Demonstrations by Ruff-N-Ready Agility, the Houston Canine Frisbee Disc Club and canine freestyle (dog dancing) are throughout the day. Contests include Best Dressed Western Wear, Pet Tricks, Pet/Owner Look-Alike and the perennial favorite, the Puppy Plop. Officer Tommy Thompson of the Montgomery County Sheriff?s Department will offer a demonstration with Bianca, the drug sniffing dog. Microchipping will be available all day for $20 by the Montgomery County Animal Shelter. ?The whole day is full of fun activities . . . to enjoy with your dog at your side. It doesn?t get better than that,? McConnell said. Some of the dogs coming to Spring Bark!!! will not have an owner at their side. These are the animals brought by the many attending rescue groups.
