In April of 1998, New York City's first public dog playground (agility course) opened in Van Cortlandt Park. Canine Court was also the first public dog agility course/playground in the country. Canines now have a fenced-in play area that totals 14,000 square feet - one half as a dog run and the other half as a dog agility course. The agility equipment consists of several chutes or tunnels for pooches to run through, a teeter-totter and a pair of hurdles. Canine Court was made possible by $3,000 from the Friends of Van Cortlandt Park and $1,000 from the City Parks Foundation (CPF). The NYC event called PawsWalk, held every April/May helped to fund some of the equipment, fencing and benches. The doggie playground is located in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. From the Henry Hudson Parkway, follow signs to Van Cortlandt Park. Canine Court is located across the Parkway from the horse barn/stable. It is located between a running track/soccer field area and the Parkway. You cannot really see it from the road, so you will need to park and then walk along the running path, towards the Parkway.
