Hoyt Arboretum covers 185 ridge top acres, is home to a collection of trees representing more than 1,100 species gathered from around the world, and features 12 miles of trails winding through what they call "a living museum". The Visitor Center is at the heart of the Arboretum and they offer maps, trail guides, and park information. There are tours, classes, and special events throughout the year also. Free guided tours, part of Portland Parks and Recreation's Green Walk series, are offered the first Saturday of each month from April through October. The grounds are open 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily. The Visitor Center is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday; and closed Sundays and major holidays. They say that all dogs are welcome in the Arboretum "as long as they are accompanied by a sensible human", and if your pet(s) is thirsty after the drive, they have a water dish out front to greet them. Dogs must be friendly, well behaved, leashed, and cleaned up after. Dogs are allowed throughout the park on all the trails.
