Located in the Chugach National Forest, this valley, freshwater glacier reaches over 100 feet into Portage Lake, and offers visitors an upfront view from the hiking trails along the lake that leads there from the Begich, Boggs Visitor Center. The center is open from May through September, and is home to award wining exhibits and ongoing interpretive programs. Dogs are allowed at the visitor center, at the glacier, and on the trails. There is a 1 1/2 mile trail to the glacier. They are not allowed on the boat tours. Dogs must be leashed and cleaned up after at all times.
