Russell Cave was designated a National Monument by virtue of its major archeological importance; this 310 acre site has been home to various cultures throughout all Prehistoric time periods with artifacts showing more than 10,000 years of habitation. This site contains the most comprehensive records of these ancient cultures in the Southeast. Leashed dogs are allowed on the grounds and at the cave overlook area; they must be cleaned up after promptly and dogs are not allowed in park buildings.
