At one time Hovenweep was home to 6 Puebloan-era villages of more than 2,500 people; now it offers a unique blending of cultural, historical, ecological, recreational and educational opportunities. The visitor center is open daily (call for holidays) with varied hours depending on the season. The park also offers seasonal interpretive programs, trails, overlooks, and camping. Dogs are allowed throughout the park on the trails and at the campground. Dogs must be leashed at all times and cleaned up after promptly.
