Located in the Payette National Forest near McCall, the Lake Fork Trail takes hikers on a fairly easy trek along the creek for a good mile finding some hidden fishing spots and interesting rock formations to climb. This part of the trail is also good for children; more ambitious adventurers can stay on the trail for about another 5 miles to Maki Lake (elevation 7293 feet) to get in some good fishing. Although it is rather steep for the last 1000 feet into the lake area, the hike there has almost no elevation gain and quite scenic. Additional maps and trail information can be obtained at the Ranger station in McCall. Dogs are allowed, they may not be left unattended, and they must be leashed in all picnic areas, campgrounds, and trailheads at all times. If off leash in other areas, dogs must respond well to voice control.
