Sent on a mission to explore the continent, the Lewis and Clark expedition pulled up to what was later named "Camp River Dubois" on December 12th 1803 to prepare winter camp. There are a number of historic remnants and restorations in this camp, and annual re-enactments reflect the military and civilian life of the era. Dogs are allowed on the grounds; they are not allowed in any of the buildings or in the replica of the Lewis and Clark campsite. Dogs must be leashed and cleaned up after at all times.
