The victory by the Confederate Army here is stated to have been a good example of "winning the battle, but losing the war" because the long term effects did them no favor. The site features Civil War artifacts, a memorial site, interpretive trails, and summer ranger programs. Leashed dogs are allowed on the grounds. The visitor center detailing the facts of this site is located 15+ miles south at Milepost 266 on the Natchez Trace Parkway.
