This historic site is managed by the National Park Service, and the landscape consists of the Sandburg residence, a dairy goat farm, several outbuildings, rolling pastures, mountainside woods, 5 miles of hiking trails, several ponds and 2 small lakes. There are also flower and vegetable gardens, an apple orchard, guided tours, and from June to mid-August, they offer live performances of Sandburg's Rootabaga Stories and excerpts from the Broadway play, "The World of Carl Sandburg", at the park's amphitheater. The office is open and tours are offered from 9 am to 5 pm daily (except Christmas). The grounds are open for visitors from dawn to dusk. Dogs must be on no more than a 6 foot leash and cleaned up after at all times. Dogs are allowed on the trails and throughout the park, but they are not allowed in buildings or the barn area.
