Once the heart of an extensive transportation network for industry, this area served an even bigger role as the passage point for thousands and thousands of immigrants in the 19th and early 20th century, and now it provides over 300 developed acres for public recreation less than 2,000 feet from the Statue of Liberty. Dogs are allowed throughout the park, on the trails, and at the picnic areas. Dogs must be leashed and cleaned up after at all times.
