More than 20,000 prehistoric and historic Native American and Hispanic petroglyphs (images carved in rock) stretch 17-miles along Albuquerque's West Mesa. Your leashed dog is welcome to accompany you on a dirt trail that is about 1.5 miles long and passes about 800 petroglyphs. There is no shade or water along this trail which can get very hot during the summer months. The trail starts at Unser Blvd and St. Joseph. Dogs are not allowed on the Boca Negra trail or other developed areas of the park.
