Mt Marcy is the tallest mountain in the Adirondacks and in New York State. Experienced hikers (both human and canine) may want to hike this mountain. There are four trails up the mountain, the most popular being the primary trail. Take Rt 73 from Lake Placid and turn right on Adirondack LOJ Road. The hike is a 7.5 mile each way climb to the summit of Mt Marcy. It is a moderate climb for experienced mountain hikers. The elevation gain is over 3,000 feet from the trailhead to the summit. There are not too many views until you get to within a few hundred feet of the summit. Only take a dog experienced in mountain hiking on this trail.
