This 17 mile paved recreation path runs throughout Athens County. The path is located on the old Hocking Valley Railroad bed and offers a scenic connection between the cities of Athens and Nelsonville. Points of interest along the bikeway include rock outcroppings, high cliffs, views of the Hocking River, displays of wildflowers, as well as birds and other wildlife. The path starts on the east side of Athens and winds around the Ohio University campus and along the Hocking River. It goes through a historic coal company town and a part of Wayne National Forest. The path ends at Robbins Crossing which is a 19th century living village on the Hocking College campus. Pets on leash are allowed and need to be cleaned up after.
