Rideau Canal and Trail
Rideau Canal and Trail 90 Wellington Street Ottawa, Ontario
K1P 1C7 613-239-5234 Map
N America's oldest operating 19th century canal - looking much as it did 150 years ago, was considered a major engineering feet of its time with 24 dams/46 locks, and it is now listed as a World Heritage Site. It connects numerous waterways to form a nonstop flow of water from Kingston to Ottawa, and in winter it becomes the longest ice skating rink in the world. Plus, there is a wonderful pathway that follows along side for about 8 Km and affords visitors a unique view of times gone by and the areas growth to modern times. Picnic areas and the villages and towns along the way each offer their own special amenities. Leashed dogs are allowed at the parks, the canal, on the trail, and stops along the way.
