This scenic park's beautiful sandy beaches are protected by the towering sea cliffs surrounding them, and the day-use and picnic facilities are only a short walk from the beach allowing for easy access for beachcombing, fishing, swimming, and boating. There is a network of hiking trails that connect Sunset Bay with nearby Shore Acres and Cape Arago State Parks. These trails give the hiker opportunities to experience the pristine coastal forests, seasonal wildflowers, and the spectacular ocean vistas of the area. There is a fully enclosed observation building that has interpretive panels describing the history of the Simpson estate along the way. From points along the trail you can see views of Gregory Point and the Cape Arago lighthouse. The park is open year round from 8 a.m. until sunset. Dogs on lead at all times are allowed, and pets must be cleaned up after. Dogs may not be left unattended at any time. There is a campground here that offer a variety of activities and recreation.
