This 278,000-acre refuge has one of the west's most expansive wildlife habitats free of domestic livestock. Originally this park was set aside in the 1930s for the conservation of pronghorn antelope, and now acts for protection and restoration of native ecosystems for the public's enjoyment and education. There is also a wide variety of land and water recreation available. Potable water, compressed air, and restrooms are available at the refuge headquarters. Dogs of all sizes are allowed. Dogs may not be left unattended, and all pets must be leashed. Dogs used for hunting during the waterfowl or upland bird hunts, are permitted to be unleashed as long as they remain under strict voice control. Dogs are allowed on the trails (trails not maintained). There is primitive camping here, but none of them have any RV hook-ups, drinking water, firewood, or fire rings.
