Lachine Canal National Historic Site
Lachine Canal National Historic Site East to West across Montreal Montreal, Quebec
514-283-6054 888-773-8888 Map
The Lachine Canal was the main ship transportation route through Montreal until the St Lawrence Seaway was built. The canal closed in 1970. Now it is a historical site with a 14 km trail for hiking, biking and other activities. The park starts at the Old Port and gos to Lake Saint-Louis. There are also boating activities on the canal. Dogs are allowed on most of the trail but between 6th and 23rd Avenues there are currently discussions about whether dogs are allowed on this section. So it is best to use the section east of 6th Avenue. Dogs are not allowed in any parks in the District of Lachine except designated dog parks.
