Four ranger districts oversee more than 600,000 acres of forest lands rich with diverse ecosystems that support a large variety habitats and wildlife, cultural history, and recreational opportunities. There is also an environmental education center with numerous activities and programs, a 36 mile trail that goes from the mountains to the sea, and many other sites of interest. Dogs are allowed throughout the forest and campground areas; they must be leashed and under their owner's control at all times.
