Shelby Farms is the one of the largest urban parks in the United States. At approximately 4500 acres it is five times larger than New York City's Central Park. Park visitors will enjoy walking, fishing, mountain biking, horseback riding, even inline skating, and a lot more. The Lucius E. Burch Jr. State Natural Area is about 700 acres of wetlands and hardwood forest, and is located in the southern portion of Shelby Farms. The park is open daily from sunrise to sunset. Shelby Farms Visitors Center, located on the north side of Patriot Lake, is open daily and staffed Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Dogs must be well behaved, not disturb the wildlife, and be leashed except where allowed to be off lead. Dogs must be cleaned up after.
