Map

The state's largest public use land with 640,000 forested acres also sits in one of the most diverse environments in the world. In addition to a wide range of recreational and educational pursuits, this working forest also provides a wide variety of community resources. Dogs are allowed throughout the forest; they are not allowed in buildings, swimming areas, beaches, or where posted. Dogs must be on no more than a 6 foot leash (except during legal hunting), caged, or in a vehicle and under their owner's control at all times. There are 30 developed campgrounds and several primitive camping areas available with all, some, or none of the following: running water, restrooms, showers, picnic tables, fire rings, and grills. The campsites are 1st come 1st served except for 3 of the developed campgrounds that require reservations. The camping and tent areas also allow dogs. There is a dog walk area at the campground. There are no water hookups at the campgrounds.
