This historic site commemorates the driving of the last spike on May 10, 1869 of the first transcontinental railroad, and illustrates the social, economic, and political impacts this accomplishment has meant to the growth and westward development of America. The Visitor's Center is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm. The activities range from regularly scheduled ranger programs, engine house tours, living history programs, reenactments, films to view, picnicking, a 1 ½ mile walking trail, and locomotive demonstrations are offered seasonally. Dogs are welcome throughout the park, with the exception of the Visitor's Center. Dogs must be leashed and cleaned up after at all times.
