Having the distinction of being the oldest English speaking settlement west of the Blue Ridge, this historic town has a long, rich and interesting cultural history, a 20 block long historic Main Street, one of the oldest professional residence theaters in the US, and it is also host to the popular Virginia Highlands Festival. Dogs are allowed to explore the town too; they must be leashed and cleaned up after at all times, and they are not allowed in any of the buildings.
