Appalachian Trail in West Virginia
Appalachian Trail in West Virginia Off Sandy Hook Road Harpers Ferry, West Virginia
25425 304-535-6331 Map
The historic Appalachian Trail enters the state at Harpers Ferry by footbridge over the Potomac River and travels 4 miles in the state, and then after crossing the Shenandoah River, it follows along the states border for several miles. The elevation goes from 265 to 1,200 through this corridor, and the best hiking is between mid-April to mid-June, and September through October because of the summer heat/humidity. Dogs on leash are allowed on the trail; they must be under their owner's control at all times.
