This park is California's oldest park and is home to the largest continuous stand of ancient coast redwoods south of the bay area. It offers a wide variety of recreation and other activities. Dogs of all sizes are allowed. There are no additional pet fees. Dogs may not be left unattended at any time, and they must be leashed and cleaned up after. Dogs are allowed in the picnic area, the campground area, on paved roads, and the North escape road only. Dogs are not allowed anywhere at Rancho del Oso or on any other trails or interior roads. They must be kept in the RV or tent at night. Check at Park Headquarters for scheduled guided "dog walks", which are informative group hikes that give dog owners a chance to take their dogs along while learning about redwood ecology and park history. The camping and tent areas also allow dogs. There is a dog walk area at the campground. There are no electric or water hookups at the campgrounds.
