Primitive camping is available at this campground which is located at the base of the Caliente Mountains and near the dog-friendly Caliente Mountain Access Trail. There are 5 picnic tables and 4 fire pits, but no shade trees. There is no garbage pickup service, electricity or drinking water. Leave vehicles along the edge of the road, do not drive to your chosen campsite. Be aware of rattlesnakes in the area. Dogs on leash are allowed. Dogs may not be left unattended, and please clean up after your dog. The campground is about 14 miles west of New Cuyama off Hwy 166, on Soda Lake Road. There will be signs. Dogs are not allowed at Painted Rock at any time. This campground is closed during the off-season. The camping and tent areas also allow dogs. There is a dog walk area at the campground. There are no electric or water hookups at the campgrounds.
