The drawings in this cave are from Chumash Native Americans and coastal fishermen that date back to the 1600s. Dogs are allowed but need to be leashed. Please clean up after your pets. The cave is located in a steep canyon above Santa Barbara. The site is located three miles south of the San Marcos Pass. To get there, take Highway 154 out of Santa Barbara and turn right on Painted Caves Road. The cave is on the left, about two miles up a steep narrow road. There is parking for only one or two vehicles. Trailers and RVs are not advised.
