Commercial and feature film producers love to step back in time to Petaluma's town charm. Petaluma's iron front buildings are frequently the backdrop for film sets. The Film Tour will lead you through the streets to locations of films like American Grafitti, Peggy Sue Got Married, Heroes,Howard the Duck,Shadow of A Doubt, and Basic Instinct. To begin the tour, park in the city garage at the corner of Keller Street and Western Avenue. The Riverfront at the foot of Western Avenue was where the police car was hurled into the water in Howard the Duck. This was also a film site for Explorers. Nearby, 120 Petaluma Blvd. North (Bluestone Main Building) was the site of Bodell's Appliances in Peggy Sue Got Married where Charlie worked for his father. The Mystic Theater, 23 Petaluma Blvd. North near B St. starred as the State Movie Theater in American Graffiti. Walk down Petaluma Blvd. South to H Street. The end of H Street at the Petaluma River was Lovers Lane for Peggy Sue and her boyfriend. Head back to D Street, turning Left on D and head west to 920 D Street. The upstairs bedroom was used in Explorers, and a 20 foot tree was imported from Los Angeles for the boyfriend to climb to the girl's bedroom. Commercials for General Electric, Levi's, and catalog stills for the local Biobottoms company were shot here. At Brown Court off D Street, is an area that has a look that is a favorite with commercial producers, including Orville Redenbacher Popcorn. At 1006 D Street was Charlie's house in Peggy Sue Got Married. Backtrack down D Street to Sixth Street and go north towards town. St. Vincent's Church and neighborhood at Howard/Sixth and Liberty Streets were used for scenes in the TV remake of Shadow of a Doubt with Mark Harmon and Basic Instinct with Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone. The big white house at 226 Liberty Street, on the east side of Liberty near Washington Street was Peggy Sue's house in Peggy Sue Got Married. For more information, please visit the Petaluma Visitor Center at 800 Baywood Drive, Suite #1 in Petaluma or call 707-769-0429. The Visitor Center is located a the northwest corner of Highway 116 (Lakeville Hwy.) and Baywood Drive next to the Petaluma Marina. Take the Lakeville Hwy 116 exit off Hwy 101.
