Historic Jack London Square was named after the famous author, who spent his early years in Oakland. In the 1800's, this waterfront was one of Oakland's main shipping ports. Today it is a shopping village with shops, restaurants, entertainment and more. While at the village, you and your dog can take a self-guided history walk by following the distinctive bronze wolf tracks in the walkway. The walk begins at Heinold's First and Last Chance Saloon. At the village you will also find musical entertainment Sunday afternoons in the courtyard. Be aware that on Sundays, from 10am-2pm, there is a Farmer's Market in the main walkway (center and north end of the village). Dogs are not allowed in the market and the security attendants will remind you. The market pretty much fills up the main walkway, so it is tough to walk around it. There are some dog-friendly outdoor restaurants located at the village. To get there from Hwy 880 heading north, exit Broadway. Turn left onto Broadway. Follow Broadway into Jack London Square.
