Within the San Bernardino National Forest this trail is well known to visitors and residents alike. Leashed dogs are allowed throughout the San Bernardino Forest Trails in Big Bear. The trailhead is located on Highway 38 west of Big Bear. There is parking at the trailhead. The trail heads two miles up and connects to the Pacific Crest Trail on which you can extend your hike significantly should you desire. The trail offers spectacular views of the lake valley. The Cougar Crest Trail is strenuous and please bring enough water for dogs and people.
