Hot Creek Geologic Site
Hot Creek Geologic Site Hot Creek Hatchery Road Mammoth Lakes, California
93546 760-924-5500 Map
Considered a geologic wonder complete with hot springs, fumaroles, craters, and the ever-changing earth of the area, it is also a natural sanctuary for many kinds of birds and wildlife. Because of the high concentrations of chemicals in the water and the potential danger of scalding water, swimming is not recommended, and visitors must remain on walkways and boardwalks. There is a hatchery here, and long rearing ponds (called raceways) where visitors may view the fish. Dogs are allowed at the site, but are to be kept away from the water. Dogs must be on no more than a 6 foot leash, under their owner's control at all times, and be cleaned up after.
