Dog-Friendly Anaheim & Orange County California

Orange County Beaches - Newport Beach, Huntington Beach & More
Orange County South Area

Anaheim is to the West Coast what Orlando is to the East Coast. The vacation hub known for the major theme parks is, however, really part of Los Angeles as there is no separation between the cities 40 miles apart. If there were no signs you would not be able to tell where one city begins and another ends. Anaheim is in Orange County with a population of 3 million people. Dogs are not allowed in the Anaheim theme parks but they do have day kennels to board dogs in while you attend. More dog-friendly destinations are nearby Orange County cities Huntington Beach and Newport Beach.

Many people go to Anaheim to visit Disneyland. While dogs are not allowed into Disneyland, except for service dogs, there is an air-conditioned and supervised kennel at the park. It is located outside of the main entrance and dogs must be picked up at the end of the day. There are no overnight stays. There are many dog-friendly hotels in the area around Disneyland.  The Sheraton Anaheim Hotel is designed like a castle and welcomes dogs to stay with you in the rooms. There are 13 acres of gardens at the hotel. The Sheraton Park Hotel allows dogs up to around 40 pounds. The Anaheim Marriott Suites (1 mile from Disneyland),the La Quinta Anaheim near Disneyland  and the Residence Inn Anaheim Maingate all allow dogs as well.  If you want to stay closer to the beach communities then the Hilton Orange County in Costa Mesa or the La Quinta Orange County at John Wayne Airport are dog-friendly choices. If you want to camp in a motorhome or travel trailer then the Canyon RV Park on the Santa Ana River is 14 miles from Disneyland and the  Newport Dunes RV Park is a waterfront resort campground minutes from the dog-friendly Fashion Island Mall.

Dog-friendly restaurants abound in Southern California. There are even a few restaurants that have a special dog menu just for your pup. The Lazy Dog Cafe is a chain of restaurants in Southern California that are famously dog-friendly. This Sports Bar chain has TVs on the patio and special dog menus and water bowls. There are two locations near Anaheim at 1623 West Katella Avenue in neighboring Orange and at 16310 Beach Blvd in Westminster. In Huntington Beach there is the original restaurant with dog menus probably in the country, the Park Bench Cafe. This breakfast and lunch restaurant is located in Huntington Central Park and has a multitude of outdoor tables and a big doggie menu. Many of the Johnny Rockets hamburger restaurants in the area are also dog-friendly and some have dog menus also.  There are a few dog-friendly restaurants for all budgets and tastes at the dog-friendly Fashion Island Mall in Newport Beach. This upscale open-air mall is very dog-friendly and has many dog-friendly stores and patio restaurants to choose from. See DogFriendly.com's directory for more choices in dog-friendly dining near Anaheim and in the beach areas.

Huntington Beach is very dog-friendly. For dog-friendly dining there is the original doggy menu, the Park Bench Cafe. Huntington Dog Beach is one of the premier dog beaches in America. This one mile stretch of off-leash dog beach is a great beach for you to take your dog to.   Newport and Balboa Beaches in Newport Beach  and Corona Del Mar State Beach in Corona Del Mar allow leashed dogs only before 9 am and after 5 pm. These beaches are located along Balboa Blvd. There are also a number of off-leash and fenced dog parks in the area.
