Dogs are not allowed on the beach during the hours of 9 am to 5 pm. There are a string of beaches, including Kennebunk, Gooch's and Mother's, that make up a nice stretch of wide sandy beaches. People need to clean up after their pets. The beaches are located on Beach Avenue, off Routes 9 and 35.

There are two fenced parks, one for large dogs and one for small dogs. There is water at the park. From Route 35 take Main Street. Turn right on Governor Street and proceed near the end of Governor Street. The park is on the right. At the stop sign past the police station turn right and then left onto Hampton Park Road to the dog park. The dog park is next to Scalzo Field at the back of the park.

There is a unfenced, shared use off-leash dog area in Jamesville Beach Park which accesses the Jamesville Reservoir. Proof of a current rabies vaccine may be required on site.Dogs on leash are allowed in the rest of the park except that they are not allowed in the beach areas during the summer beach season. During the winter dogs may use the beach areas on leash. There is a disc golf course in the park. Dogs must always be cleaned up after throughout the park. To get to the park from I-81 take Route 173 east to Jamesville, then head south on South Stree to the park.

The Hotel Monaco in Alexandria hosts a Doggy Happy Hour in the spring and summer. Dogs on leash are allowed at the outdoor tables in the courtyard. The happy hour is open to dogs of all sizes between April-October on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It runs from 5 pm - 8 pm. You don't have to stay at the hotel to visit the Happy Hour. The Doggy Happy Hour was begun at the Holiday Inn. Now it is a pet-friendly Hotel Monaco hotel where you can also stay with your dog while visiting Alexandria. They ask that dogs stay away from the bar area and keep their paws off the tables and chairs. Water and gourmet biscuits are served to your pets.

This 15 acre resort is the largest oceanfront resort hotel in Jekyll Island. The resort is also home to the largest public golf course in Georgia. Amenities include an outdoor pool, playground and more. All guest rooms are non-smoking and have either one king bed or two double beds. Rollaways, cribs, microwaves and refrigerators are also available for a minimal fee. Or you can stay in one of the Villas, which are two-level townhouses that come with a separate bedroom, kitchen, dining area, living room, bathrooms, and private patio. There is a $25 per night per pet charge plus tax. Dogs up to 25 pounds are allowed.
