The park was established as a feeding and resting area for over 200 species of migratory birds. There has been more than 400 acres of agricultural fields planted with food for them. There is also roughly 2200 acres of short-grass prairie, 900 acres of lakes, and 200 acres of woodlands or other lands. Interpretive/environmental programs are available upon request, and there is a variety of land and water recreational opportunities plus primitive camping on the west side of Lake 13. The primitive campsite is seasonal and has a 3 day stay limit. Restrooms are located at the entrance road leading into Lake 13. This campground is closed during the off-season. There are no electric or water hookups at the campgrounds.
