Enjoy a fully narrated tour of Mackinac Island aboard a horse drawn carriage. The tour begins in the center of Main Street and stops at the Surrey Hills Museum, Wings of Mackinac Butterfly Conservatory (extra fee), Arch Rock (5 minutes of viewing) and Fort Mackinac Avenue of Flags (extra fee). The tours operate continually during the day, so you can get off, spend some time at some of the stop and then catch the next carriage. The tour time is about 1 hour and 45 minutes. Be sure to bring your camera for some great photo opportunities of the island. Well-behaved dogs are allowed on the public carriage tour but may be asked to sit towards the back of the carriage. If you have a large dog that takes an extra seat, you may be asked to pay for a child's fare for your pooch. The public tours run daily, weather permitting, from May to the end of October. The ticket office is located in the center of downtown Mackinac Island, on Main Street across from the Arnold Transit dock. There is no departure time. You can take the next available carriage after you purchase a ticket. Private carriages are also available for hire at $80 per hour for 1 to 4 people. Private carriages can hold up to 7 people.
