This forest consists of one million acres of mountains and canyons and offers a variety of recreational opportunities like camping, hiking, backpacking, boating, fishing, hunting, nature study, photography, and off highway vehicle travel. Elevations in the forest range from 750 feet to 8092 feet with an average elevation of about 4000 feet. For a map of hiking trails, please visit the Visitor Center at 10025 Elk Mountain Road in the town of Upper Lake.
