This trail is 9.5 miles long and is rated moderate. Located in the Mendocino National Forest at an elevation of 5,200 feet, this trail is one of the most popular loops on Snow Mountain. The route offers dense red fir forests, meadows and a barren peak. The Milk Ranch meadow is private property, but the landowner allows horse and foot travelers to pass through on the trail. They just request that no camps be set up within the posted portion of the meadow. Pets are allowed on the trail. They must be leashed in the campground, but are allowed off-leash under voice control on the trail. Please clean up after your pets. The loop can be started at the Summit Springs Trailhead. To get there from Ukiah, take Highway 101 North then take Highway 20 East towards Upper Lake/Williams. Go about 5 miles and turn left onto Potter Valley Road towards Potter Valley. Turn right on Forest Service Road M8 towards Lake Pillsbury. The road towards the lake is not paved. The trail starts near the lake at the Summit Springs Trailhead. Dogs are also allowed at the lake but should be leashed.
