Three of Lake Tahoe's most luxurious playgrounds of the rich and famous were here on its south shore, including the Pope Estate. The Pope Estate is used as the interpretive center for the Tallac Historic Site; it features historic tours, exhibits, and living history programs. Dogs are allowed at the trails and outside of the historic buildings. The grounds are open year-round, though most of the buildings are open only during summer. From the intersection of highways 50 and 89 in South Lake Tahoe, travel 3.5 miles west on Highway 89. The entrance and parking areas are on the lake side of the highway.'s Sponsor's Sponsor
